AI UNIVERSE is my latest project where I merge traditional handmade sculptures with AI image generation technology. By training the AI using my clay sculptures, I’ve created a system that generates digital images in line with my artistic language. These AI-generated visuals expand my imagination and inspire new physical sculptures that I craft by hand. In AI UNIVERSE Pt.2 (working title), this fusion of analog and digital worlds continues, as I work towards an exhibition that presents a consistent, immersive world while maintaining the handcrafted essence central to my practice.
At the heart of this work is Flux 1, an offline text-to-image AI model I’ve trained using photographs of my sculptures. Each sculpture is captured through dozens of meticulously edited images, allowing the AI to understand my visual language. What makes this process especially exciting is that the AI not only replicates my style but also creates entirely new works based on it, offering insights I may not have considered. So it creates works I would have made, but didn’t.
The AI allows me to previsualize entire worlds, enabling me to observe my work as a spectator while dramatically shortening a process that would have taken years to develop. By inputting prompts, I can generate landscapes, machines, or natural phenomena like oceans and explosions, all rendered in my sculptural style. The AI understands the underlying formal language of my sculptures, creating a coherent world that feels like it was crafted by my hand. Although the output is in 2D, I immediately grasp these images because they speak the same visual language as my physical artworks. In service of my clay sculpting, these AI-generated images accelerate the imaginative process, compressing what could have been a decade-long project into just a few months. The AI acts as a creative companion, speeding up my workflow and unlocking ideas I might not have explored otherwise.
With AI UNIVERSE Pt.2, I am moving toward an exhibition where my handmade sculptures and AI-generated images merge to form a unified world. Visitors will walk through a space filled with both drawings and sculptures, each reflecting the collaboration between myself and the AI. The drawings are based on the AI’s output, while the sculptures are hand-sculpted interpretations of these digital images, bringing the AI’s creations to life. This fusion of digital and physical worlds opens up new creative dimensions, allowing me to visualize and create fully realized universes much faster than ever before. It gives my imagination room to expand and process ideas in ways I hadn’t anticipated, enabling me to generate entire detailed worlds that align with my artistic vision in a fraction of the time.
Ultimately, my goal for the exhibition is to create an immersive experience where visitors can explore a world composed of handmade drawings and sculptures, all born from the collaboration between myself and the AI. What would have taken a decade to develop is now possible in just a few months, thanks to the AI’s ability to compress years of work. Conceptually, *AI UNIVERSE Pt.2* is ready, and it’s time to bring it to life physically. The machines, spaceships, and natural phenomena you'll see in the exhibition will all be crafted by hand, inspired by the AI’s output. As I continue to feed these sculptures back into the AI, a constant exchange between the digital and physical unfolds, propelling my work into a new creative universe.
